How long will my repair take?

Some repairs take less than an hour. However many of our repairs are completed in a 2-48 hour turnaround time. We provide the highest quality service you can find, and our expert certified service technicians can repair any smartphone, handheld device, or MP3 Player on the market. If the part is not in stock, we will let you know when it will arrive and then when your cell phone / device will be ready.

Is my personal information safe and private?

We take your privacy very seriously. When we receive your device, we will not access any of your information for any reason. You can password protect your phone if you feel more comfortable doing so, but it will limit our ability to test the functionality of your device after repairs have been made. We cannot guarantee the functionality of all systems if your phone or device is password protected.

Are you an authorized Apple, Samsung or Microsoft store?

Normal Gadgets has been in business since 2012 serving central Illinois customers. We have technicians that are Wise Certified (https://www.wisecertification.com/places/normal-gadgets/), Apple Certified and listed as an Independent Repair Shop with Apple.

The WISE Authorized Service Provider (ASP) designation we received conveys service excellence. It allows service providers to differentiate themselves and demonstrate their commitment to quality. Certification is awarded based on each shop meeting the industry recognized standards defined within the program. Today, the scope of the WISE Certification program includes smartphones. WISE Certification is specific to a repair environment (retail or vehicle). Each location is individually certified.

We have Certified Level 3 Mobile Device Technicians that have gone through our rigorous training before they work on customer devices. We are also the only local repair shop that works on motherboards and solder components such as HDMI ports and capacitors.

  For context, I rarely leave reviews and I have a pretty weird, non-standard phone, and have spent the last month or so trying to find a repair shop willing to fix my weird, imported device.All this to say, I went in expecting the process to be a bit abnormal. Anyway, onto my review: After stopping by several repair shops, I was ultimately recommended to reach out to a Normal Gadgets since my device was kinda rare and most places weren't certified to fix it. I called Normal Gadgets on Friday. They were busy, so I left a brief voicemail describing my issue: the aux port on my phone no longer worked as expected and the port seemed loose, audio cables were not forming a proper connection and would frequently fall out, and the back was cracked from me dropping it a few months prior. I explained in the voicemail that I had a pretty rare phone and it might be difficult to repair/find parts, but that I'd done my due diligence in researching the parts required and where to order them from an official reseller, which would save them some significant hassle. The owner texted me back saying "They should be able to help me." I responded back and said great, see you Tuesday after I got off work (Monday was Labor Day). I waited in line for 30 minutes, got to the front desk, and the worker looked at me like I was stupid after I explained the details to him. I'd done my research, I knew what parts I needed, and was willing to pay for them to do it because I didn't have the technical expertise to fix a phone. I chatted with other customers while I was waiting as well as the other staff member, who seemed very kind and knowledgeable, a tinge nerdy, but a good guy. The kind you definitely want when fixing your tech. But they absolutely overcharged the guy for what something so simple, I would have done it for free. They tried to charge him $150. Anyway, back to my experience: The guy I spoke with was not quite as kind as the other tech. He took my phone, asked me to unlock it, then went to the back and after roughly 30 minutes of waiting, told me they couldn't do anything. I literally walked them through the process of what they needed to do, and they wasted my time and energy after I srove 15 minutes driving out of my way there, and 45-minutes to an hour of waiting in the lobby while the rude front desk guy treated me like I was the crazy one for being excited about getting my phone fixed. I asked the tech I was working with if he knew any other places I could get my phone fixed, since they weren't willing to. He crossed his hands, and with a mildly snooty tone said: "I'm not sure, this is the only repair shop I've ever worked at." ...I left and texted the owner from the same number he reached out to me at asking if he wanted me to come back for a second opinion. He never responded. I went to FiXiT Mobile Repair next to Best Buy afterward and made a fair deal with the owner within 15 minutes. I will be avoiding Normal Gadgets like the plague going forward. To the long-haired nerdy tech dude at the front desk: you are awesome. I hope you find a better employer in the future. You deserve better.
